A Specialized Learning Environment
In the average traditional classroom, one third of the school year is spent reviewing material that was already taught. For gifted students who can comprehend and apply standard classroom material with ease, this slow pace and emphasis on content repetition can be frustrating and an impediment to their growth.
At The National Academy for the Gifted, students no longer have to wait for classmates to catch up before they can move onto more challenging content. Students are no longer told how to learn, when to learn, where to learn, and what to learn. Our program provides an opportunity for students to have an individualized learning plan, a flexible curriculum, and differentiated instruction that enables students to work at their own pace and in areas of personal interest. Because all students learn differently, unique academic plans are mapped out for each child, to account for their individual learning styles and personalities.
At The National Academy for the Gifted, students are supported by faculty who understands the unique emotional, psychological, and intellectual needs of gifted students. Personal and emotional development is given as much attention as academic and cognitive development. Low student teacher ratios enable teachers to provide specialized support and guidance to our students. Academic advisors maintain consistent communication among our school, the student, and their parents.
Enhancing each student’s self-awareness, self-acceptance, and their relationships with the community are primary goals of our program. We prepare these special students to enter our global community with pride in their potential and the ability to approach challenges with creative and critical skills and an understanding and appreciation for differences and interdependence.
