We Teach the Way Children Learn

In traditional schools, one curriculum is taught for each age level. One size fits all. We believe that one size fits maybe one type of learner, at best.

At the National Academy for the Gifted, we teach your gifted child the way that he/she learns.

We know that there are many different ways to teach most topics. We also know that it is imperative to build on a student’s previous knowledge and understanding of a subject in order for the child to integrate the new material.

The students at The National Academy for the Gifted are provided with a gifted curriculum that contains a learning activity or learning path that is suited for each type of intelligence. For a more detailed discussion of intelligences, see Types of Giftedness. Each of our lessons contains multiple learning paths. For example, a visual learner can click a button and watch a video clip on that lesson. The auditory learner can highlight the text and the text is automatically read to him/her. The artistic learner can visit beautifully designed web pages that have visual representations of the subject matter. The kinesthetic learner can conduct experiments or make projects. All of these options are contained in almost every lesson offered to our students. Many of the Learning Modules contain storybooks, additional reading material, musical selections, games, virtual field trips, discussion boards, and other ways to engage the student. The best part of our lessons is not just the multiplicity of learning styles they reach, but the fact our students can spend as much time as they need to explore the different learning activities. We do not presume that because a gifted student shows a proclivity towards visual learning that videos are the only way he/she will learn. We have discovered that the more ways you offer the student to learn the material the more successful the learning is. See how we personalize curriculum to fit your student.
