How Our Guiding Principles are Exemplified in our Gifted Academy

 

Thanks to the National Association for Gifted Children for providing an exemplary list of Guiding Principles and Standards on which our gifted program has been based. This chart describes the specific National Academy for the Gifted service that meets these vital principles that constitute an extraordinary gifted program.

 

NATIONAL ACADEMY FOR THE GIFTED GUIDING PRINCIPLE

NATIONAL ACADEMY FOR THE GIFTED SERVICE, PROGRAM AND POLICY

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Gifted learners are provided with differentiated guidance efforts to meet their unique socio-emotional development. 

TNAG SERVICE: Faculty with specialty in gifted education to meet with students once a month on teleconference. Counseling services provided by a counselor familiar with specific training in the characteristics and socio-emotional needs (i.e., underachievement, multi-potentiality, etc.) of diverse gifted learners.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Gifted learners must be provided with career guidance services especially designed for their unique needs.

TNAG SERVICE: College and career guidance that is appropriately different and delivered earlier than typical programs.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Rather than any single gifted program, a continuum of programming services must exist for gifted learners.

TNAG PROGRAM: Learning opportunities at NAG for gifted learners are offered as a continuum of differentiated curricular options, instructional approaches, and resource materials

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Gifted Learners must be given differentiated content, assessments and instruction.

TNAG PROGRAM:  Lessons provide multiple avenues of discovery, Enrollment options provide choice in the length and amount of teacher support

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Instructional pace must be flexible to allow for the accelerated learning of gifted learners as appropriate.

TNAG PROGRAM:  Our curriculum allows for students to move at an individualized pace - any time, anywhere, for any length of time.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Educational opportunities for subject and grade skipping must be provided to gifted learners.

TNAG PROGRAM: Students enroll in any course at any grade level in any academic subject area without regard to chronological age of the student.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Underachieving Gifted Learners must be served rather than omitted from differentiated services

TNAG PROGRAM: Teachers and Academic Advisors specifically trained in the emotional, psychological, and intellectual needs of gifted and talented children

GUIDING PRINCIPLE: A Student Assessment Profile of Individual Strengths and needs must be developed to plan appropriate intervention

TNAG ADMISSIONS POLICY: A multidisciplinary team that includes parents, students, previous teachers, admissions counselors and guidance counselors complete a comprehensive TNAG Student Profile which is the blueprint for the Individual Gifted Education Plan developed by TNAG.
