Curriculum Features – Interactive Simulations & Science Labs
Our online gifted education curriculum is full of simulations that bring learning to life. Simulations are virtual sandboxes that allow students to manipulate data and properties of virtual objects. Simulations provide children with a concrete way to process information. In Science, children won’t just read about photosynthesis, they will watch an interactive animated demonstration of photosynthesis taking place. The National Academy for the Gifted students learn by seeing, touching, and hearing.
Our Science Labs are interactive online experiments that are meant to simulate real-world scientific phenomena. The National Academy for the Gifted encourages children to conduct offline, hands-on experiments as well. Your gifted school children will learn the differences between mixtures and compounds by making tasty glasses of lemonade.
Science experiments are important for several reasons. They bring abstract scientific information down to a concrete level that a child can understand. It’s one thing to learn about the concept of surface tension. It’s quite another to see it in action. Secondly, science experiments teach the value of the scientific method. Students in our gifted education program will ask a question, do research, develop a hypothesis, test the hypothesis through experimentation, analyze the results, and draw a conclusion from those results. This time-tested method is put to use in our virtual Science Labs.
Our virtual dissection kit is especially popular! Your child will learn all about the intricate details of frog anatomy using real tools that biologists use. We have science labs in many of our gifted education science courses focusing on condensation, soil erosion, and the elements of physical motion such as friction, velocity, and acceleration.
